The emergency room
(ER) staff members are proud to announce that their hard work, dedication and
specialized training have once again earned Mile Bluff classification as a
Level III Trauma Care Facility - the highest ranking currently held by any
rural hospital in Wisconsin.
To even be considered
as a trauma center, a hospital must be equipped and staffed to provide
comprehensive emergency medical services to those with traumatic injuries. To receive trauma center verification, an ER
must also meet a specific set of criteria - as established by the American
College of Surgeons - and then undergo a site review. That review assesses the team’s performance
in the management of critical trauma, as well as the treatment of the general
trauma patient across the continuum of care.
According to Mile
Bluff’s ER Director Mary Crowley, “This is an important achievement because the
classification objectively measures our performance and processes against the
nationally-recognized standard of care.
Mile Bluff Medical Center has been found to be providing that
exceptional standard of care consistently; and I am grateful to be a member of
this patient-focused, quality-driven team.”
As a Level III Trauma
Center, Mile Bluff has the expertise and resources to provide assessment,
resuscitation, stabilization and emergency surgery, as well as the ability to
transfer patients to a Level I or II facility when necessary.
In a letter from the
Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Chief Medical Officer Jeffrey P.
Davis, MD, stated, “I congratulate you and the staff of Mile Bluff Medical
Center for achieving its classification as a Level III Trauma Care
Facility. This is truly impressive and
we commend your hospital staff for its ongoing commitment to providing quality
care to trauma patients in your area.”
Mile Bluff Medical
Center is committed to providing compassionate and progressive care, improving
the health and wellness of the community, and going beyond expectations in
healthcare today and always. The Mauston
area is fortunate to have an ER staff that has proven to be ready to provide that
high level of care in emergency situations.
