Free, discounted health screenings at Mile Bluff – Juneau County

In order to lead a healthy lifestyle, it’s important to take control of your health.  Knowing your specific risks for developing heart disease and diabetes can help you be proactive in making healthier life choices.  Knowing your levels of cholesterol and blood pressure, and keeping those under control, may even help to add a few more years to your life.

If you would like to learn some steps you can take to better control your wellness, be sure to attend the upcoming health fair at Mile Bluff – Delton Family Medical Center.  The event will be held on Thursday, December 18 from 7 to 11 am.

Free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings will be available, along with the opportunity to discuss specific risks for developing diabetes and heart disease with Mile Bluff’s healthcare professionals. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments and win door prizes.

If you would like to have a total cholesterol test performed with no fasting required, you may do so for $10. You also have the option to have a lipid profile worked up for only $20; this test requires 12 hours of fasting.

Once your tests are completed, Mile Bluff’s healthcare professionals will review your results with you, and will provide tips on how to reduce your risks for developing diabetes and heart disease. If areas of concern are found through these screenings, resources will be provided to help you with your needs, and all results will be sent to your primary care provider.

Insurance is not needed to take advantage of the benefits these health screenings have to offer. The information you receive from these tests, along with the educational tools you will be given, are important steps in positively impacting your health.  Appointments are required for all services, so call 608-254-5888 to reserve your spot today!

Donate blood and save a life with Mile Bluff Medical Center! - Juneau County

Throughout the year, Mile Bluff Medical Center hosts a number of community blood drives.  The events are a partnership between the medical center and the Blood Center of Wisconsin - the sole supplier of blood products to Mile Bluff.
Join your friends, family, co-workers and neighbors, and do your part to help save lives by coming to the next blood drive at Mile Bluff.  The event is scheduled for Monday, December 8 from 9 am to 2 pm.
Each donation made at Mile Bluff could touch the lives of up to three people in the community.   At this drive, you will have the option to make a whole blood donation (which is made up of red blood cells, platelets, plasma and white blood cells), or you can give a dual red or platelet-only donation.  While a whole blood donation will yield red blood cells and platelets, it would take two whole blood donations to equal the same amount of red blood cells that can be found in a single dual red cell donation.  It would take six units of whole blood to equal the same amount of platelets that are in a single platelet-only donation.
You can help someone in need.  Make a blood donation on December 8 during the drive at Mile Bluff Medical Center in Mauston.  To reserve your spot, call the Blood Center of Wisconsin at 1-877-232-4376 to make an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome.

Requirements for being a blood donor:
*  Must be 17 years or older (16-year-olds can donate with parental consent)
*  Must weigh at least 110 pounds
*  Should be free of any cold, flu or allergy symptoms the day of donation
*  Must not have had hepatitis after age 11
*  Should not have any risk factors associated with HIV or AIDS
*  Must know the names and doses of all medications (most prescriptions are acceptable)

Tips to remember the day you donate:
*  Bring along a photo ID such as a driver’s license.
*  Drink plenty of fluids prior to and following your donation.
*  Avoid strenuous physical exercise until the day following your donation.
*  Eat a nutritious meal prior to and following donating.
